Juan Montellano scores his first goal of 2013, Servando Perez raises his team-high goal total to five

BOX SCORE SEASIDE, Calif. – Seniors Juan Montellano (Fresno/Central HS) and Servando Perez (Guadalupe/Righetti HS) each scored goals to lead the Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over San Francisco State Friday afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex.

The Otters (5-3-1, 3-3-1 CCAA) picked up their third conference victory to move into the top spot in the CCAA North Division alongside Sonoma State. The Seawolves tied with No. 18 Cal State L.A. today in Rohnert Park.

"It was a good conference win for us," said CSUMB Head Coach Rob Cummings. "Juan had a great goal to start things off.  He has had to deal with some personal items recently, so the goal was even more special."

Sophomore Evan Drake (Sacramento/El Camino HS) earned his third shutout of the season while recording just one save.  The Otters outshot SF State 11-5 with seven coming in the second half.

Montellano notched his first goal of the season in the 25th minute when he ripped a shot from 20 yards out into the far corner.  Juniors Andreas Gronvik (Stockholm, Sweden) and George Plakorus (Columbia, Mo./Hickman HS) each recorded assists.

"The game changed when SFSU was issued a red card after Juan's goal," Cummings said. "At times, it's hard playing a man up and keeping the focus especially when the card happens really early in the game.   I thought we did a good job with being patient today while communicating more."

CSUMB got some insurance in the 51st minute when Perez took a pass from Gronvik and half volleyed to the side netting.  Junior Max Madrigal (Oxnard HS) was also credited with the assist.

"Servando's goal was big and helped us to relax," Cummings said. "SFSU is a good team that has some good wins against Cal State LA and Cal State Stanislaus.

"So we will enjoy this and get ready for San Bernardino on Sunday."

The Otters close out the weekend against the Coyotes with an 11:30 a.m. start on Sunday, Oct. 6.
