The Otters finally return to The Kelp Bed this weekend, where they are 14-2 in September matches dating back to 2010.
SEASIDE, Calif. -- After being gone nearly the entire month of September, the Cal State Monterey Bay volleyball team will finally see the inside of The Kelp Bed again when it hosts Humboldt State Friday (Sept. 28) and Cal Poly Pomona Saturday (Sept. 29). First serve both nights is set for 7 p.m.
"It was a good experience to be on the road the last three weeks, however, it was especially hard for this young group,” says CSUMB Head Coach
Jody Garry. “We all look forward to being home with our friends, fans, family and, overall, the familiar."
The Otters haven't played a home match since closing the 2012 Otter Classic with a pair of victories on Sept. 1. That afternoon, the Otters swept Maryville University 25-19, 25-12, 25-17 before
Julia Ashen established the CSUMB four-set kill record with 25 in a 20-25, 25-20, 34-32, 25-19 over Alaska-Anchorage.
BLUE CRUE TAILGATE
CSUMB Associated Students and the Blue Crue will sponsor a kick-off tailgate pior to the Humboldt State match on Friday, Sept. 28. The event begins at 5 p.m. with free food an live music for Blue Crue members. Not a Blue Crue member? No worries. Sign-ups will take place at the event.

SHE'S A KILLER QUEEN: Outside hitter
Julia Ashen is off to a torrid start to her sophomore campaign. After totalling 36 kills last weekend (4.50 kps), she enters the week ranked No. 2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association by averaging 4.05 kills per set.
MORE ASHEN: Julia Ashen has reached double–figure kills in 11 of 12 matches this season, including nine consecutive matches entering the weekend. That's the longest such streak since Melanie Lashbrook opened the 2011 season by reaching double figures in 13 straight (Aug. 31 – Oct. 7).
ON THE BLOCKS: Freshman middle blocker Victoria Clardy is making her presence felt at the net. Clardy leads the Otters and ranks No. 9 in the CCAA by averaging 0.84 blocks per set.
MAKING THEIR MARKS: Sophomore setter Kelsey Johnston and freshman libero Rachel Cookus each set career highs at Cal State Dominguez Hills last week. Johnston passed for a career–high 41 assists while Cookus collected a personal–best 20 digs.
