SEASIDE, Calif. -- With eight newcomers -- including seven freshmen -- on the 2012 roster, many Otters are experiencing career "firsts" this season. On of the those firsts, the marathon collegiate roadtrip, comes to a end for the Cal State Monterey Bay volleyball team with matches at Cal State Dominguez Hills (Friday) and Cal State L.A. OTTER VOLLEYBALL ODDS & ENDS

ON THE ROAD AGAIN: The Otters will continue their longest roadtrip of the season (eight matches) in Los Angeles this weekend. They return to The Kelp Bed to host Humboldt State on Friday, Sept. 28.

HOME AWAY FROM HOME: The Otters haven't tasted road victory in the CCAA in their past six matches, however, they are heading to a venue this weekend where they've enjoyed much success. The Otters have won their last three at Cal State Dominguez Hills (including last season's 25–23, 25–16, 25–21 victory). Their five wins in the Torodome are second only to their six at Cal State Stanislaus' Warrior Arena among CCAA opponents.

SHE'S A KILLER QUEEN: Sophomore outside hitter Julia Ashen is off to a torrid start to her second campaign. After totalling 26 kills last weekend (4.33 kps), she enters the week ranked No. 2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association by averaging 3.94 kills per set.

MORE ASHEN: Julia Ashen has reached double–figure kills in nine of 10 matches this season, including seven consecutive matches entering the weekend. That's the longest such streak since Melanie Lashbrook opened the 2011 season by reaching double figures in 13 straight (Aug. 31 – Oct. 7).

ON THE BLOCKS: Ten matches into her rookie season, freshman middle blocker Victoria Clardy is making her presence felt at the net. Clardy leads the Otters and ranks No. 9 in the CCAA by averaging 0.91 blocks per set.
