TURLOCK, Calif. — For the second consecutive day, the No. 9 Cal State Monterey Bay softball team found itself starring into the face of an upset loss at Cal State Stanislaus. Jamie Moon (Torrance HS) made sure history wouldn't repeat itself.

Moon's seventh–inning grand slam powered the Otters to a 6–4 win in Saturday's opener, before a seven extra base hit extravaganza powered them to a 15–8 nightcap win and a doubleheader sweep at Warrior Field.

CSUMB improves to 33–9 overall and 18–6 in the CCAA with the sweep. They also lower their magic number for clinching a CCAA tournament berth to two versus both Sonoma State and Cal State East Bay, provided all remaining games are played.

Freshman first baseman Nina Villanueva (San Diego/Mt. Carmel HS) continued to rip the cover off the ball, finishing the day 4–for–8 with two doubles, a triple and her team–leading 11th home run of the season. She drove in five runs and scored three while raising her hitting streak to 14 games. It equals the second longest streak in school history and is the longest streak since Shae Olds hit in 25 consecutive games from Mar. 28–May 9, 2009.

While that kind of production is becoming the norm for Villanueva, the Otters got unexpected production of another kind from freshman Danica Arterburn (Sparks, Nev./Spanish Springs HS). One day after recording her first collegiate hit, she made her first collegiate appearance in the pitching circle, striking out five in six innings to earn the win in game one.

Cori Reinhardt (Riverside Poly HS) tossed a perfect seventh to tie the CSUMB record with her third save of the season.
While Moon's grand slam highlighted the opener, the nightcap featured offense galore. CSUMB scored four runs in each of the second through fourth innings before Villanueva's three–run bomb in the seventh capped the scoring. The Otters also got four RBIs, including a 3–run homer, from freshman catcher Nicole Pires (Ontario/Colony HS), and an NCAA–leading eighth triple of the season from junior left fielder Angelina Orozco (Clovis East HS).

CSUMB returns to action Tuesday, beginning a six–game homestand with a doubleheader against No. 15 Chico State at the Otter Sports Complex.
