SEASIDE, Calif.
– The No. 10 Cal State Monterey Bay softball team passed a program record with a sweep over visiting Cal State East Bay Friday to begin a four-game series.

The victories extend CSUMB's win streak to nine, knocking off its previous record of eight set in 2010. The Otters remain in the second spot in the CCAA standings with a 9-1 record, 17-3 overall.

Sophomore Kylie Linnane (Salinas, Calif./Notre Dame HS) (7-0) and freshman Cori Reinhardt (Riverside, Calif./Riverside HS) (8-1) both threw four-hitters to earn the wins. Both pitchers only gave up one earned run in their outing as CSUEB's Taylor Neumann went yard in each game.

In the opener, Reinhardt got the Otter offense rolling with a 2-RBI double in the first inning. After Neumann's first home run put the Pioneers on the board in the second, the Otters answered with pinch hitter Stephanie Pesqueira's (Tempe, Ariz./Bethany College) two-out RBI single to make it 3-1.

Senior Jackie Serna (Corona, Calif./Riverside City College) led off the third with a solo blast over the left field wall.  The Otters added a run in the fifth on another Reinhardt double.

In the sixth, the Pioneers scored an unearned run on a CSUMB error with two outs.  The Otters scored a final run in the sixth to clinch the 6-2 victory.

The Otters came out blazing in the second game, putting up three runs in the first.  Junior Angelina Orozco (Clovis, Calif./Clovis HS) led off with a double and later scored after advancing on a sacrifice bunt and fly.  After Serna received a walk, Reinhardt doubled to drive her home and then scored on a single by freshman Nina Villanueva (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel HS).

After Neumann once again hit a homer in the second inning, Villanueva crushed a two-run homer to extend the Otters lead to 5-1.

CSUMB notched two more runs in the fifth, taking advantage of a CSUEB error.

Orozco and Reinhardt each went 4-for-7 on the day.  Reinhardt collected three doubles while Orozco notched one.

The Otters conclude the series with the Pioneers on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
