ROHNERT PARK, Calif. —
Jackie Serna's (Corona/Colony HS) two-run homer in the sixth inning proved to be the difference as the Cal State Monterey Bay softball team earned a doubleheader split with previously undefeated Sonoma State by winning game two 3-2 Friday afternoon at Seawolf Field.
SSU (8-1, 1-1 CCAA) scored a pair of sixth inning runs to come from behind and win the opener 2-1.
Freshman P/2B
Cori Reinhardt (Riverside Poly HS) (4-1) allowed six hits in a tough game one loss to Sonoma ace Samantha Lipperd. She at the plate, she led the Otter offense with four hits and two doubles, including an RBI double in game two to erase an early 1-0 deficit.
Serna, however, delivered the big blow, however, following a one-out single by
Jamie Moon (Torrance HS) by jacking her third homer of the season to left center to break a 1-1 tie. Sophomore pitcher
Kylie Linane (Salinas/Notre Dame HS) made that lead stand up, allowing just one earned run in her third complete game victory of the season.
CSUMB (9-3, 1-1) will conclude its four-game set at Sonoma State with another doubleheader Saturday at noon. CSUMB plays its home openers Feb. 24 and 25 at the Otter Sports Center against Cal State San Bernardino.
