Kevin Loustale led the Otters on the glass for the 11th time this season with eight boards Friday night.
BOX SCORE
SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal Poly Pomona's men's basketball team entered the week ranked No. 2 nationally in scoring defense among NCAA Division II schools. The Broncos certainly validated that ranking with a suffocating defensive effort to hand Cal State Monterey Bay a 64-35 setback Friday night in The Kelp Bed.
CSUMB stayed with the Broncos early, leading 11–10 midway through the first half and trailing just 29-20 at the break. But the Otters scored just 15 points in the second half—including just three points in the final 10:19 of regulation—as Cal Poly pulled away for the win.
No Otter scored more than
Brandon Ward (Riverside/Woodcrest HS), but the Bronco defense cooled off the reigning
CCAA Player of the Week, limiting him to eight points on 2-of-12 shooting from the field. Junior forward
Kevin Loustale (Chico HS/Shasta College) had a nice night on the glass with eight rebounds.
Mitchell Anderson led Cal Poly (15-5, 12-5 CCAA) with a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double. DeRon Scott chipped in 10 points and four steals for the Broncos.
CSUMB (2-18, 1-15) will try to right the ship Saturday night when it hosts San Francisco State in The Kelp Bed for a 7:30 p.m. tip. Fans who can't make the game can follow the action online at www.OtterAthletics.com or on the air on KION 1460 AM.
