THIS WEEK IN OTTER VOLLEYBALL HISTORY

Rheann Fall collected 16 kills in the season finale vs. Chico State to break her own school record (421 in 2009) with 422 kills in one season on Nov. 12, 2010.

OTTER VOLLEYBALL ODDS & ENDS

JOHNSTON SETS THE STANDARD: Sophomore setter Kelsey Johnston passed for 36 assists Tuesday at Cal State East Bay, raising her own CSUMB record 980 helpers for the season. Johnston has two matches remaining in the regular season to potentially reach 1,000 assists. Nikki Sanderson's pre–2012 record of 844 assists set in 2006 now sits a distant second.

AND THEN THERE WAS ONE: With nine kills Tuesday at Cal State East Bay, sophomore outside hitter Julia Ashen moved to within one kill of 400 for the season. So why is the heading of this note, “And Then There Was One,” you ask? It's because the only player left for Ashen to catch is Rheann Fall, who had 421 kills in 2009 and 422 kills in her All–America season of 2010.

CAN YOU DIG IT? Freshman libero Rachel Cookus has set the CSUMB freshman standard for digs in a season with 427 entering this weekend's action. She currently holds the No. 5 spot on the Otter single season list with a good chance to catch Melissa Nickas for the No. 4 spot (442 in 2007) and an outside shot at catching Katie Bos in the No. 3 spot (464 in 2009). Bos holds the school record with 518 digs in 2006.

ON THE BLOCKS: Freshman middle blocker Janai Johnson continues to make her presence felt at the net. Johnson enters the week with 21 block solos in 2012, good for the No. 2 spot on the Otter single season. Christine Ricketts holds the CSUMB record with 29 block solos in 2006.

ENERGY EFFICIENT: The Otter offense enters the week with an aggregate .198 attack percentage. If the season ended today, that would be a CSUMB season record. The record currently is .189 set by the 2009 Otters.
