BOX SCORE
SAN FRANCISCO — For the second consecutive game, the Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team dug itself a big hole, climbed most of the way out, but ultimately fell short in a 92-82 loss to San Francisco State Thursday at the Swamp.
Junior forward
Derrick Anderson (Pittsburg HS) scored 19 points while grabbing seven rebounds and five steals to lead CSUMB (2-8, 1-5 CCAA). Junior guard
Brandon Ward (Riverside/Woodcrest HS) chipped in 16 points for the Otters.
SFSU (3-9, 1-5) built a 17-point lead at the half as the Otters shot 24 percent from the floor in the period, their worst shooting half of the season. They caught fire in the second half, shooting 56 percent from the floor, including 50 percent (5-of-10) from beyond the arc. That allowed them to claw their way back into the game, holding the ball with the chance to climb within five points twice in the final five minutes, but they couldn't get over the hump.
The Gators got a game-high 27 points from Nefi Perdomo and a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double from James Albright.
CSUMB jumps out of the frying pan and into the fire Saturday, heading to Southern California to take on No. 6 Cal Poly Pomona.
