Jenna Bandy went 3-for-3 from the field including a three-pointer in Friday's win at Dominguez Hills.
BOX SCORE
CARSON, Calif. — After leading by as many as 17 points in the second half, the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team had to parry a late comeback attempt to hang on for a 60–56 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday evening at the Torodome.
CSUMB (13-3, 10-2 CCAA) led for the final 27:43, increasing its lead to 52-35 midway through the second half. While that advantage ultimately proved insurmountable, it didn't come without a few anxious moments. The Toros cut the lead to 59–56 inside the final minute and had two possessions to tie the game. But the Otter defense stood up when it mattered most, getting two late stops before a
Brittani Jefferson free throw with nine seconds remaining finally sealed the deal.
Brandi Stephens led the Otters with 14 points while
Erika Ward added 10. Porcha Davis, Sherrie Hughes and Lyndsay Heard each scored 10 points for CSUDH.
Dominguez Hills scored the game's first five points before the Otters found their sea legs. The lead changed hands a few times before a
Jenna Bandy three-pointer began a 15–0 run that put CSUMB up for good at 26-12 with nine minutes to play in the first half. An 11-1 run midway through the second half gave the Otters their biggest lead at 52–35 before the Toros made their charge.
The Otters did their part to help the Toro comeback, going 1-for-5 from the floor with five turnovers over the ensuing six minutes as CSUDH cut the lead to 55-50. The teams traded points until a Heard jumper and a Davis steal gave the Toros the ball down just 59–56 inside the final minute.
But the Toros missed a three-pointer and a layup on their next two possessions before Jefferson made the free throw that removed the drama from the final 10 seconds.
CSUMB will look for a big road win tomorrow when it plays at Cal State L.A. Saturday night. The Golden Eagles defeated Cal State
East Bay 61-52.
