Otters Down William Jessup In Three

Senior Rhean Fall leads CSUMB with 15 kills and 12 digs.

SEASIDE, Calif.
– The Cal State Monterey Bay women's volleyball team defeated William Jessup in three straight sets, 26-24, 25-10, 25-15, Friday at the Kelp Bed.   CSUMB improves to 2-0 on the season, while the Warriors drop to 0-6. 

Senior outside hitter Rheann Fall (Elk Grove/St. Francis HS) picked up her second consecutive double-double, leading the Otters with 15 kills and 12 digs.  Senior middle blocker Melanie Lashbrook (Truckee/ Tahoe Truckee HS) added 10 kills, hitting .533.  As a team, CSUMB hit .363, while holding William Jessup to .061.

The teams traded points to start off the match until the Warriors gained a four point cushion at the midpoint.  The Otters came out of its last timeout of the set with a 4-0 rally to cut William Jessup's lead to 21-20.  CSUMB clinched it at 26-24 on Fall's seventh kill of the set.

CSUMB jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the second set that included two aces by junior Rachel Freeno (Alta Loma/ Alta Loma HS) and four Otter kills. With a balanced offense, the Otters cruised to a 25-10 set victory with a .478 attack percentage.

Tied at sevens in the third, CSUMB notched six straight points on senior middle blocker Tiffaney Riggs's (Vancouver, WA/ Heritage HS) two kills and miscues by William Jessup.  The Otters went on to complete the sweep with a 25-15 third-set win.

The Otters will face Westmont College on Saturday, Sept. 3 in the Otter Classic finale.  First serve is at 6 p.m.
