SEASIDE, Calif. -- After encouraging efforts in a pair of tough one–goal losses last weekend, the Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team will look to enjoy some home cooking when it returns to the Otter Sports Complex for a pair of CCAA matches this week. The Otters, 1–0–1 in Seaside this season, will host Chico State Friday, Sept. 23, and Cal State Stanislaus Sunday, Sept. 25.

“We saw how hard it is to win on the road. Now Chico and Stanislaus are coming to us,” says CSUMB Head Coach Rob Cummings. We're excited to be playing at home again and finally having a normal routine. These games are big to get back into the hunt. There is still a lot of soccer to be played. We have two good teams coming in and we need to let them know that we play hard for 90 minutes to guard our house.”

Senior midfielder Beau Villanueva (Turlock/Pitman HS) tops a balanced Otter stat sheet with one goal and one assist through five matches. Senior Sam Campanelli (Palmdale/Highland HS) has played every minute in goal, posting 17 saves and a fine 1.15 goals against average.


Otter Men's Soccer Odds & Ends

WINNING WAYS:  A win over Chico State on Friday would give the Otters a 2–0–1 record at the OSC in 2011. It would be the team's best–ever start at home, besting the 2–1–0 mark of the 2007 team.

BALANCING ACT:  The CSUMB offense has been insanely balanced this season. Seven different players account for the team's four goals and four assists. Only Beau Villanueva graces the stat sheet more than once (one goal, one assist).

IRON MEN: Through the first five matches, senior Eli Zamora (Encino/Crespi HS) and sophomore Conor Delaney (Rocklin HS) have been CSUMB's iron men. The defensive duo are the only field players to have played all 470 minutes.
