SEASIDE, Calif. - Junior #Randall Packard# crushed a walk-off grand slam in the series finale against Cal State East Bay on Sunday, lifting the Otters to a 9-5 victory over the Pioneers.
The Otters improve to 16-20 overall and 13-14 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action while the Pioneers drop to 11-25, 13-30 in conference play.
Junior #Danny Nelson# went 3-for-3 with two runs to lead the Otters at the plate. Sophomore #Tony Hernandez# and Packard each recorded two hits.
The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, scoring on an error.
CSUMB evened the score on sophomore #Nolan Murray#'s RBI double to left field.
The Otters took their first lead of the game in the third inning. Junior #Chris Lopiccolo# led off with a double down the right field line. Senior #Greg Fujii# was granted first after being hit by a pitch and both runners advanced 90 feet on a balk. Sophomore #Ronnie Fhurong# reached on a fielder's choice, enabling Lopiccolo to score from third to give CSUMB a 2-1 lead.
The Otters extended the gap with three runs in the sixth inning. Nelson hit a leadoff double, Packard followed with walk and George singled to load the bases. Hernandez singled to advance all the runners one base. Murray drew a bases-loaded walk and Lopiccolo grounded out to give CSUMB a 5-1 lead.
The Pioneers hit three doubles in the eighth, scoring three runs to cut the score to 5-4.
Cal State East Bay tied the game in the top of the ninth on Woolfe's two-out single through the middle.
Three walks loaded the bases for Packard's grand slam.
Junior #Jake Paolinetti# picked up his sixth win of the season after coming in the game in relief.
The Otters travel to Cal State San Bernardino for a four-game series beginning on Thursday, April 21.
