LOS ANGELES - The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team pulled off a big 13-2 win over No. 10 Cal State L.A. on Sunday afternoon.
The Otters (14-18) picked up their 11th California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) win, tying a program record.
CSUMB pounced on CSULA's pitching, racking up 16 hits including six doubles. All nine starters had one hit or better with sophomore
Nolan Murray leading the way for the Otters, going 4-for-6 with a double and two runs.
The Otters got on the board in the third inning, scoring three runs on two hits and one CSULA error. After sophomore #Tyler Young# led off the inning with a single, sophomore #Tommy George# drew a walk. Junior #Randall Packard# laid down a sacrifice bunt but reached first on an error by the first baseman, enabling Young to score from second. Murray doubled down the right line to plate George and sophomore #Tony Hernandez# connected on a sacrifice fly to bring Packard home.
CSULA took advantage of two CSUMB errors in the bottom of the third, scoring its only two runs of the game.
The Otters notched another run in the fourth on senior
Greg Fujii's fielder's choice.
CSUMB scored a total of nine runs on 11 hits in the final four innings.
Junior #Paul Brock# (3-2) pitched seven innings and did not allow an earned run for the Otters. He gave up eight hits, walked two and struck out five. Sophomore #Austin Thiel#, junior #David Holland# and junior #Mike Wilson# combined to allow only one hit over the final two innings.
The Otters return home on Friday, April 15 to host Cal State East Bay at 2 p.m.
