Otters Have Incredible Comeback To Earn Split

SEASIDE, Calif.- The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team hosted Cal State Stanislaus (CSUS) in the California Collegiate Athletic Association contest between. The Otters dropped the first game 7-1 and pulled out, yet another extra inning game 10-9. 

The Otters will travel to Warrior field on Monday, March 28 starting at noon for the conclusion of the CCAA series.

Game 1: CSUS 7, CSUMB 1

To start the game off, the Warriors' Thomas Shull hit a shot to right center for the triple. Sophomore Colton Beatty hit a screamer up the middle for the RBI. Junior Joe Medeiros singled to right field, bringing around yet another Warrior run.

The Otters jumped on the board, starting with a single to center field off the bat of junior #Danny Nelson#. With two outs, junior #Jared DeCastro# blasted a RBI double down the right field line to cut the Warriors' lead in half. 

The Otter error was crucial in Stanislaus' run scored in the fifth. The runner scored on the sacrifice fly to right field to bring in the third run of the game. 

Senior Vince Hungerford blasted a shot over the right field fence in the top of the seventh to give Stanislaus another run.

Senior #Greg Fujii# and sophomore catcher #Tyler Young# hit back-to-back singles but the Otters were unable to capitalize in the seventh. 

With the turning of the innings, Stanislaus got their three run punch with a double to right field. 

Sophomore #Tony Hernandez# and Nelson, each went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Otters.  

Vince Hungerford went 2-for-3 with a homerun, a double, two runs scored and one run batted in. Shull also went 2-for-3 with a double, one run and one run batted in. Andrew Stueve threw a complete game for the win. 

Game 2: CSUMB 10, CSUS 9, 13 Innings

In the top of the first inning, the Warriors got off to a promising start, by scoring seven runs off of seven hits, two of them being doubles. 

The Otters answered with a strong second inning with DeCastro doubleing to center field. Junior designated hitter #Randall Packard# singled to put runners at the corners. Junior #Chris Lopiccolo# singled through the right side for the RBI. The Otters would score four runs on four hits and one Warrior error. 

Stanislaus would add a run in both the fifth and sixth to reach their final score of nine total runs for the game. 

In the sixth, Packard blasted a three-run homer over the right field fence to cut the Warriors' lead to two runs. 

CSUMB would add another run in the eighth when the heart of the line-up came to the plate.With one out, DeCastro scored on the fielder's choice play. 

The Otters tied the game up in the bottom of the ninth without a hit. Sophomore #Tommy George# reached on an error and stole second.  He then stole third and scored on a misplay at third to force extra innings.

The eleventh brought a great moment for CSUMB as they captured their ninth CCAA conference win of the season. George beat out the throw to first  for the lead-off single. Nelson singled through the right side, advancing George to third. DeCastro hit the walk-off single to center field to capture the win. 

DeCastro was a strong presence at the plate of the Otters, going 4-for-6 with the game winning RBI, a double and three runs scored. Packard went 3-for-4 with a three run home run and two runs scored. 

For the Warriors, senior Zach Cadet had three hits, four runs batted in and two runs scored. Hungerford went 2-for-3 with one run scored.
