Berry Named To Daktronics All-American Second Team

March 22, 2011

SEASIDE, Calif.
– Cal State Monterey Bay sophomore guard #Davion Berry# has been named to the Daktronics All-American second team, becoming the first basketball player to earn this honor.

“To be tabbed as one of the top 15 players in the country is a big honor, especially for a sophomore,” said head coach #Rob Bishop#. “The big challenge for Davion will be to live up to hype for the next two years and to continue to play at a very high level.”

Berry is the only non-senior of the 15 Daktronics honorees to receive this honor. He ranks fifth among NCAA Division II student-athletes in scoring with a 23.7 average. He had 18 games of scoring 20 or more points and eight games of 30 or more points.  He had a career-high 41 points against Cal State San Bernardino on Jan 29th at the Kelp Bed.

“People will want to come and see him play and opponents will want to keep him from putting up the same numbers during these next two seasons,” Bishop said.

Berry was the top scorer in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.  Berry picked up Daktronics All-West Region first team and All-CCAA.  Last season, Berry was selected CCAA Freshman of the Year.

“It is great to have such a good young man to build a program around,” Bishop said. “Guys will want to play with him and the fact that he wants more than anything is to win a championship will only help to improve our team.”
