SEASIDE, Calif.
– Senior #Greg Fujii# hit a walk-off double to lift the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team to a 7-6 victory against Biola University in its home opener on Thursday afternoon.

“I am proud of the way we stayed together, competed and fought back at the end,” said head coach #Walt White#. “This is a great win for our team and our program as a whole.”

The Otters improve to 1-3 while the Eagles of Biola evened out at 3-3 for the season.

Freshman first baseman #Tyler Soto# had a game-high three hits. Sophomores #Ronnie Fhurong# and #Tyler Young# added two hits apiece.

Senior #Scott Tully# threw seven innings, giving up eight hits and only one earned run.  Sophomore #Jake Paolinetti# recorded the win after two innings, allowing two runs and giving up three walks. Biola's Kyle Atkins took the loss.

The Otters held a 6-5 lead entering the top of the ninth inning.  With the bases load as a result of a single, a walk and an error, the Eagles scored on a walk to force another at-bat for CSUMB.

Young led off the ninth inning with a single to right field and advanced to second on a wild pitch to set up Fujii's walk-off double.

“It is nice to get our first win in front of our home crowd,” Walt said. “I envision our program as something our university can be proud of and today is a great start. We took one step closer to where we want to be as a program.”

The Otters begin a three-game series against Fresno Pacific on Friday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m.
