SEASIDE, Calif. -- Although the postseason doesn't officially start for another three weeks, the knockout stage begins for the Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team this weekend. The Otters (6–6–1 overall, 6–5–1 CCAA) hit the road for two must–win matches against two of the teams with whom they are tangling for CCAA Tournament qualification.
Friday (Oct. 21) the Otters will travel to the site of the CCAA Tournament to meet Cal State Stanislaus (8–5–1, 6–5–1). Sunday (Oct. 23) means a visit to Chico State (8–3–3, 7–3–2). The Otters defeated both teams earlier this season at the Otter Sports Complex. They held off Chico for a 2–1 win on Sept. 23 before handing Stanislaus a 2–0 defeat on Sept. 25.
“We're going into the weekend still playing for a chance to get into the conference tournament,” notes Head Coach
Rob Cummings. “Last weekend, like the players have done all year, they answered the challenge. We'll have to step up once again this weekend to give us the opportunity to come home and play for a postseason bid.”
The Otters gave two strong performances over the weekend, dropping a tough 1–0 decision to CCAA North Division leader Sonoma State Friday (Oct. 14) before coming back even stronger in a 3–0 shutout of Humboldt State Sunday (Oct. 16).
