SEASIDE, Calif.
- With a total of 13 cards handed out, the Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team had to settle with a 2-2 draw against Cal State East Bay on Sunday afternoon at the Otter Soccer Complex.

"It was very nice to get a point, but disappointed to let the win slip away," said head coach #Artie Cairel#. "We are young, starting  only one senior and six first year players, and still learning."

The Pioneers jumped on the board first on Alexis Romo's goal in the first thirty seconds of the game.

CSUMB tied the game at 1-1 in the 32nd minute. Junior #Beau Villenueva# stole the ball from an outside defender, beat the final defender and got to the byline for a cross to junior #Tyler Dapello# who finished it for his first goal of the season.

With less than a minute remaining in the first half, junior #Eli Zamora# sent a cross to freshman #Forrest Alvarez# who scored on a chip over the CSUEB goalkeeper.

CSUEB evened the game once again in the 52nd minute on a goal by Brett Souza.

For the first time this year, the Otters outshot their opponents, 20-13, with a 7-2 combined advantage in the overtime periods.

"We played some attractive attacking soccer," Cairel said. "We believe this level of play will elevate as we gain experience as a group."

The Otters travel north to Sonoma State on Friday, Oct. 1 at 3 p.m.
