NOBLESVILLE, Ind
. – The No. 21 Cal State Monterey Bay men's golf team wrapped up the first day of action at the NCAA Division II Championship, held at Sagamore Gold Club in Noblesville, Ind., at 22-over-par 310 and in sixth place out of the field of 20 teams. 

Tenth-ranked Nova Southeastern sit atop the team leaderboard at 11 strokes over with 54 holes remaining on the par-72, 7,173 course. No. 5 Chico State posted the best results out of the four California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) schools participating in the tournament, finishing the day in fourth place at 19-over-par. 

NSU's Ben Vertz carded an even-par 72 to take the lead after day one with four golfers on his heels with one stroke over par.

Junior #Scott Yeakel# posted the best outing of the day for CSUMB, going 3-over-par 75 to come to rest with eight other golfers for 12th place.

Senior #John Jackson# and junior #Anthony Valdez# turned in identical scores of 6-over-par 78 and tied for 38th place. Freshman #Dylan Jackson# follows with a 7-over-par 79 and tied for 47th place. Junior #Oskar Nystrom# struggled today but ended on a good note on his final hole, birding the 9th to finish 12-over-par to tie for 88th.
