Otters Drop Doubleheader To Chico

CHICO, Calif. – On the road, the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team dropped a conference doubleheader to Chico State. The Otters were swept, 16-6 in the opener and 6-3.

Freshman #Ronnie Fhurong# went 4-for-9, including a double and a triple. Senior #Jacob Flores# went 4-for-8, with a home run and a double. Seniors #Ryan Chagonjian# and #Joey Friedman# each had two-run homers.

The two teams will conclude the CCAA series on Nettleton Field starting at 12 p.m.  

GAME 1
Box Score

The Wildcats started off the first with a lead off walk. The walk would turn into a run, after Chico State singled to left field. The Wildcats added two more runs, with one swing of the bat over the center field wall by Adam Arakawa. 

For the second consecutive inning the Wildcats would score three runs but this time striking with four hits.

Freshman #Thomas George# would get things going for CSUMB in the third, with a double to left center. Freshman second baseman #Nolan Murray# had an RBI single to left field.

The third was no different. The Wildcats posted another three run inning. The biggest shot came from the bottom of the line-up, on one swing by Ben Manlove. Chico led 9-1 after three.

In the sixth the Otters got a lift from Chagonjian as he went yard, bringing in Fhurong who singled to right field.

Flores hit his fifth home run of the season in the eighth.

The bottom of the eighth was detrimental to the Otters. The Wildcats would combine four walks, five hits and score six runs before stranding three.

Senior #Jerrod Krick# singled to center field, for his first of the day. Friedman blasted a shot over the left center wall. The final was 16-6.

 

GAME 2
Box Score

Fhurong doubled down the right field line to start the game off. Flores doubled to center, bringing in Fhurong. The Otters posted the first run of the game.

Chico scored four runs in the first, combining two singles and three RBI doubles to the right side, lifting the Wildcats to a 4-1 lead.

Chico State's Arakawa homered for the second time of the day.

In the fifth, Fhurong tripled down the right field line. Flores stayed hot at the plate with a RBI single.

The Otters would score another run in the seventh with two hits from Fhurong and Flores.

Both Fhurong and Flores had three hits apiece for the Otters. 

The Otters out-hit Chico, 11-10 in the nightcap.
