CSUMB Falls To Visiting Toros

SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team hosted No.16 Cal State Dominguez Hills for the double header. The Otters dropped both games Friday, 9-3 and 14-4.

The two teams face off Saturday, April 10, for the conclusion of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) series back at the Otter Baseball Field starting at 12 pm. The double header will consist of both a nine inning game and one seven.

 

GAME 1

CSUDH jumped on the board first in the second inning. A lead-off double set the table for the Toros. They would score two plays later.

The Toros added their second run of the game, combining two hits, a hit by pitch and a walk in the fourth.

CSUDH pushed the run total to 4-0 in the fifth. The Toros added four hits.

The ninth inning was full of runs for both teams. CSUDH started it off in the top of the inning scoring five runs off of four hits and three CSUMB errors.

The Otters created their biggest rally of the day in the ninth. Senior centerfielder #Brent Sargenti# singled to left field. Freshman #Nolan Murray# hit a double down the left field line, advancing Sargenti to third. Freshman #Ronnie Fhurong# and senior #Jacob Flores# drew walks for the Otters to push across one run. Senior #Jason Okamoto# doubled down the left field line, bringing in two Otter runs. CSUMB made the final score, 9-3.

Senior #Patrick McClain# pitched eight complete innings for the Otters. Murray went 2-for-4 hitting his ninth double of the season.

GAME 2

With a scoreless first inning, the Toros moved into scoring position fast in the top of the second. CSUDH put up the first four hits of the game. The Toros would score three runs in the rally.

The Otters put up two hits in the second, but it wasn't enough to push a run across.

Sargenti blasted a lead-off double to left center in the third. Grounding out to shortstop, Murray advanced Sargenti to third. Fhurong brought Sargenti in for his seventeenth RBI of the season.

CSUDH started the seventh inning off with a single to left center on a 1-2 pitch. The Toros would force the Otters to go to the bull-pin twice in the inning. CSUDH had three hits and scored an equal number of runs making the score 6-1.

The eighth inning came down to one swing as the Otters loaded the bases with two walks and a hit-by-pitch. With the bases loaded, CSUMB gave up a shot over the right field line.

The Toros had a big ninth inning. With five hits, CSUDH managed to score four runs to make the final score 14-4.

Sargenti went 2-for-4, hitting his tenth double of the season, two runs scored and one RBI. Freshman #Thomas George# went 2-for-4 scoring one run for the Otters.
