Final Results
PASO ROBLES, Calif. – Individual medalist #John Jackson# lead the Cal State Monterey Bay men's golf team to a one-shot victory over Cal State Stanislaus to capture it's first-ever California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Golf Championship at Hunter Ranch Golf Course.
After leading the first two rounds, the Otters carded a 289 in the final round to finish with an 8-under-par 856. Sonoma State took third place (289), followed by Cal State San Bernardino (883) and Chico State (889).
Jackson birdied three of the final four holes to shoot a 69 to finish 8-under-par 208 for the tournament to become CSUMB's second consecutive CCAA individual medalist.
Ricky Stockton was the 2009 CCAA individual medalist.
Junior #Scott Yeakel# finished tied for fourth after carding a 73 in the final 18 holes.
#Dylan Jackson#, who garnered Freshman of the Year honors, finished tied for 14th with a final score of 4-over-par 220.
Junior #Oskar Nystrom# carded a 6-over-par 222 for 16th place and classmate #Anthony Valdez# finished in a four-way tie for 25th with an 11-over-par 227.
“The University is very proud of the efforts of the CSUMB men's golf team,” said Vince Otoupal, Director of Athletics. “All year they have been in pursuit of greatness. Their 5:30 a.m. workouts paid off on the course today. They have been solid performers in the classroom as well. Coach Owen and his student-athletes played intelligently and well as a team. This is a good day for CSUMB and Otter Athletics. These victories today continue to show that we are making strides toward being a great well-rounded program.”
The Otters will next compete in the NCAA West Regional held at Classic Club Golf Course in Palm Desert on May 3-4.
