CSUMB Drops Two To No. 16 Cal State Dominguez Hills

SEASIDE, Calif.
- The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team fell short in their comeback in game one of its twinbill and were victims of a strong first frame by the Toros of Cal State Dominguez Hills in nightcap.

Freshman #Thomas George# recorded two triples and a single to lead the Otters.  Senior Brent Sargenti finished with three hits on the day.

The Otters travel to Rohnert Park to take on Sonoma State on Tuesday, April 13.




GAME 1

CSUDH struck first by scoring three runs, only one earned, on three hits and two errors in the top of the second. 

After the Toros added one in the fifth and two in the eighth, the Otters mounted a charge in the bottom of the last two frames, both spearheaded by George. In the eighth, George led-off with a triple off the right field wall and scored on a wild pitch.

CSUMB's bats came alive again in the final inning.  With two outs, Freshman #Alex Mangubat# led off with a walk.  Freshman #Ronnie Fhurong# singled to put runners on the corners. Senior #Jacob Flores# hit a single to score Mangubat. George struck a triple to left center to to bring Flores and Fhurong across the plate and to cut the gap to two runs.

CSUMB starting pitcher #Scott Tully# forced the Toros  went six strong innings, allowing only two earned runs.

GAME 2

The Toros  jumped out to a very fast start in game two, scoring seven runs on six hits.

CSUMB scored in the bottom of the third when seniors #Joey Friedman# and #Ryan Chagonjian# led off with singles. After the Toro's starter got the next two batters out, he allowed two straight base-on-balls, the final drawn by Flores to walk-in the Otters only run.

CSUMB seniors' bats produced all six hits, two walks, the only run and an RBI. Freshman #Patrick Fletcher# and sophmore #Tanner Van Meter# combined to pitch the final six frames, allowing only two runs.
