Otters Win Second Game In A Row

SEASIDE, Calif
. – The Cal State Monterey baseball team won its second consecutive game, recording a 12-2 victory over visiting Academy of Art University  on Thursday at Otter Baseball Field.

Senior #Brent Sargenti# went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs. Senior #Ryan Chagonjian# hits his first home run of the season and joins freshmen #Kyle Espinola# and #Ronnie Fhurong# with two hits apiece in the win.

Starter #Jacob Crose# threw four innings, giving up one run on seven hits and striking out eight batters. Sophomore #Thadd McAlpin# earned his first win of the year, in three innings of work. 

The Urban Knights took a quick 1-0 lead in their first at bat on a single by Mike Gutierrez.

CSUMB answered in its half of the inning when freshman #Alex Mangubat# scored on an AAU wild pitch.

The Otters took a 2-1 lead on Chagonjian's lead-off homer over right field.

CSUMB added two more runs in the third.  Senior #Jacob Flores# doubled to right center to drive in freshman #Tyler Young# who singled to lead off the inning. After Flores moved to third on a wild pitch, sophomore #Jordan Porcella-Smeds# hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Flores.

The Otters extended their lead in the fourth with two runs, scoring on an Fhurong double and an AAU error.

The Urban Knights scored their final run of the game in the seventh inning after getting two hits.

CSUMB's bat caught fire in the seventh inning, registering six runs on seven hits.  Senior #Joey Friedman# led off with a single and Flores followed with a single up the middle.  Porcella-Smeds reached first on an AAU error, scoring Friedman and put runners at the corners. Chagonjian singled through the right side to score Flores and moving Porcella-Smeds to third. Espinola hit a triple to center field, bring both runners across home plate. After Espinola scored on a wild pitch, Sargenti doubled down the left line.  Freshman #Nolan Murray# singled to once again put runners at the corners. The ninth batter of the inning, Fhurong singled to right center to score Sargenti for the sixth and final run of the game.

The Otters out-hit the Urban Knights 13-10. AAU finished with two errors and five wild pitches.

CSUMB wraps up its non-conference week on Saturday, hosting Patten University at 1 p.m.
