Otters Fall In Series Closer To Warriors, 5-1

TURLOCK, Calif. – Six starting Otters got hits as the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team fell, 5-1, to Cal State Stanislaus at Warrior Field to complete the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) series.

CSUMB racked up two hits in the fourth with a single up the middle by freshman catcher #Tyler Young#. Senior #Jason Okamoto# doubled to left field, but both runners were stranded by an inning ending line drive.

Stanislaus got on the board in the fourth with a home run by David Contereas  to left field. Junior pitcher #Scott Tully# shut down the Warrior offense with a ground out and two fly outs.

The Otters struck back in the fifth, starting with senior #Brent Sargenti# singling to third base. Sargenti advanced to second on a Warrior wild pitch. Freshman #Ronnie Fhurong# singled up the middle advancing Sargenti to third. Fhurong advanced to second on a wild pitch, while Sargenti scored from third, tying the game.

The Warriors scored one run in the sixth with two hits and stranding three.

Stanislaus combined two singles and a double with one Otter error to score three runs in the seventh inning, making the score 5-1.

Tully and freshman reliever #Corey Lathram# gave up eight hits.

CSUMB hosts Cal State East Bay for the CCAA doubleheader on Friday, April 2 starting at 12 p.m.
