TURLOCK, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team fell to Cal State Stanislaus, 4-1, in the series opener at Warrior Field on Friday afternoon.
Senior left fielder #Brent Sargenti# went 2-for-3 with a double to right center and a hard hit single up the middle. Senior #Jacob Flores# went 2-for-4, singling up the middle and through the left side. Senior #Patrick McClain# pitched the complete game for the Otters.
In the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opener, the Warriors jumped out on top in the bottom of the first with two hits and one run scored.
Stanislaus added two runs in the second. The Warriors took advantage of an Otter error and wild pitch. But not before freshman #Tyler Young# caught a Warrior stealing second.
Stanislaus added their final run of the game in the bottom of the fourth opportunities opened up for the Warriors. The Otters committed two errors in the fourth.
CSUMB got the sixth inning started with a single through the left side from senior #Joey Friedman#. Freshman right fielder #Thomas George# doubled down the left field line advancing Friedman to third. With a sacrifice fly to center field, senior center fielder #Jason Okamoto# brought in Freidman to give the Otters their only run of the game.
The Otters recorded 12 hits while stranding 14 on base. McClain allowed nine Warrior hits.
The two teams meet again Saturday, March 27 on Otter turf for the continuation of the CCAA match-up starting at 12 p.m.
