ARCATA, Calif.
– The Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team made school history, playing on national television and in front of a crowd of 1,850 people. The Otters fell, 87-54, to California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) leader Humboldt State on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman #Davion Berry# led the Otters with 16 points. Seniors #Sean Jergo# and #Shaun Williams# along with junior #Ian Hosford# and freshman #Brandon Ward# knocked down seven points each. Hosford pulled down a team-high six rebounds.

The Otter starting line-up consisted of three freshmen and two seniors while the Lumberjacks featured mostly upperclassman.

HSU took a quick 10-2 lead, but the Otters answered with an 8-2 run capped by a layup by senior #Keith Wilson# at 13:04 on the clock.

A 12-4 run gave the Lumberjacks a cushion which they held on to for the rest of the game, never allowing the Otters within striking distance again.

CSUMB shot just 31 percent from the field and 26.3 from beyond the arc.

The Lumberjacks had four players in double-digits with senior Zac Tiedeman and junior Brian Morris leading the way with 17 points each.

“This was a tough game for us,” said head coach #Rob Bishop#. “We did not come out and play with enough energy to start the game and it really hurt us.

“We have our work cut out for us this week.”

The Otters hope to get back on course on Wednesday, Feb. 10 when they take on rival San Francisco State at 7:30 p.m.
