MEN'S BASKETBALL
OPENING TIP: The Otters wrap up its 2009-10 campaign this week, traveling to Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino.

CCAA STAT RANKINGS: Against conference opponents, the Otters are second in steals (7.0) and second in free throw percentage (72.0). Freshman #Davion Berry#

THE BRONCOS: Cal Poly Pomona (18-5, 16-4 CCAA) is tied for first in the CCAA standings with Humboldt State. The Broncos are on a 11-game winning streak after dropping three games in a row. Players to Watch: Austin Swift (12.6 ppg, 4.9 rpg); Dwanye Fells (9.2 ppg, 61.0 FG pct.); Donnelle Booker (9.1 ppg, 6.0 rpg).
THE COYOTES: Cal State San Bernardino (17-7, 15-5 CCAA) is just one game out of first place. The Coyotes have lost two of their last three games. Players to Watch: Bryan LeDuc (14.2 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 59.8 FG pct); Corey Caston (11.8 ppg, 99 assists, 41 steals).
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
OPENING TIP: Entering their second to last weekend of regular season competition, the Otters are in the fifth spot in the CCAA standings. CSUMB take on Cal Pomona, ranked second in the CCAA standings, on Thursday, Feb. 25. The Otters complete the 2009-10 season on Saturday, Feb. 26 at Cal State San Bernardino.
HISTORICAL SEASON: The Otters clinched their first berth to the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) tournament yesterday with 53-43 victory over Cal State East Bay. CSUMB is fifth in the CCAA standing with two games remaining of the regular season. The Otters are fighting to finish in one of the top four spots so they can host the first round of the tournament on Tuesday, March 2.
CCAA STAT RANKINGS: Against conference opponents, the Otters are first in 3-point field goals average (6.9). Senior #Veronica Williams# - 14th in scoring (12.3), 2nd in free throw percentage (83.3), 4th in 3-point field goals average (2.1), 19th in rebounding (5.7) and 10th in defensive rebounding (4.9). Senior #Helen Suarez# - 23rd in scoring (9.9), 5th in free throw percentage (78.3) and 9th in assists (2.5). Junior #Julie Heurung# - 4th in blocked shots (1.7), 5th in rebounding (8.3), 8th in offensive rebounding (2.9) and 7th in defensive rebounding (5.4). NATIONAL STAT RANKINGS: CSUMB is ranked in the top 100 in seven categories: scoring defense (55.7, 20th), field goal percentage defense (35.9, 33rd), 3-point field goals per game (6.8, 47th), won-lost percentage (70.8, 55th), 3-point field goal defense (29.3, 67th), turnover per game (17.3, 77th) and scoring margin (4.8, 93rd). Junior #Julie Heurung# is ranked 74th in blocked shots (1.5) and 98th in rebounds per game (8.0).
THE BRONCOS: Cal Poly Pomona (19-5, 16-4 CCAA) are one game out of first in the CCAA standings. The Broncos have won seven of their last eight games topped with a 76-68 victory at Cal State Dominguez Hills. Players to Watch: Reyana Colson (17.7 ppg, 6.7 rpg); Stephisha Walton (12.0 ppg, 9.3 rpg); Megan Ford (10.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg).
THE COYOTES: Cal State San Bernardino (13-12, 9-11 CCAA) is fighting for the final spots in the CCAA tournament and is currently tied with Cal State Dominguez Hills in the seventh slot. Players to Watch: Krystal Urzua (16.0 ppg, 5.1 rpg); Kymberly Ooten (12.1 ppg, 6.1 rpg).
WOMEN'S WATER POLO
UPCOMING GAMES: CSUMB competes in the Santa Clara Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 27
PREVIOUS WEEKEND: The Otters dropped an 11-7 game to University of the Pacific on Saturday at the Otter Aquatics Center. Sophomore #Katie Sowul# led the Otters with two goals while #Chloe McRae#, #Jackie Walters#, #Heather Penna#, Alex Vespremi# and #Ali Woollett# each nabbed one.
BASEBALL
UPCOMING GAMES: The Otters travel to La Jolla for a four-game series against No. 4 UC San Diego this weekend.
PREVIOUS WEEKEND: The Otters picked up their first road victory in two years on Friday with an 8-5 victory over the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos. Senior
Justin Aguilera recorded the victory after pitching five innings and allowing only two runs on five hits while striking out three batters.
THE TRITONS: UC San Diego (11-3, 2-2 CCAA) started the season with 9-1 which includes sweeps over Grand Canyon and No. 18 Western Oregon. This past weekend, the Tritons split a four-game series with No. 23 Chico State. Players to Watch: Brando Gregorich (.462, 24 H, 17 R, 6 2B, 3 HR); Aaron Bauman (.436, 17 H, 18 R, 4 2B, 2 HR).

PREVIOUS WEEKEND: The Otters claimed a 3-1 series victory over Chico State last weekend and are now tied for first in the CCAA standings. Junior #Diane Ortiz# pitched two shutout games, allowing only three hits while striking out nine batters and walking three.
CCAA WEEKLY HONOR: Junior catcher #Shae Olds# has been named the Worth/California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Softball Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 8-14, it was announced on Monday. Olds powered the Otters to their first-ever four-game sweep of Cal State Stanislaus over the weekend. She batted .385 (5-for-13) with four runs scored, four home runs and nine RBI while posting a 1.308 slugging percentage and .500 on-base percentage. Olds homered in all four games and had three multiple-RBI games. In Saturday's doubleheader against the Warriors, Olds hit 3-run homers in the first inning of both games. Last year, Olds earned the honor in the final week after breaking the conference home run record when she blasted her 15th of the season.
CCAA STAT RANKINGS: The Otters are in the top 5 in all the conference batting categories, leading in doubles (21) and second in triples (2), runs batted in (54), runs scored (63) and slugging percentage (.488).
Shae Olds - 1st in home runs (5), 4th in RBI (12) and 2nd in slugging percentage (.786).
Jamie Moon - 4th in runs scored (10) and 4th in doubles (4).
Cat Sampson - 1st in doubles (5) and 6th in runs batted in (10).
Jenny Montez - 2nd in runs scored (11) and 4th in doubles (5).
Nicole Garcia - 10th in batting average (.391) and 7th in runs scored (8).
NCAA RANKINGS: In the NFCA pre-season poll, CSUMB is ranked 30th in the nation (found in the receiving votes section). This is the first time a sport besides golf has appeared in the national polls.
CCAA PRESEASON POLL: CSUMB has been tabbed to repeat as the CCAA tournament champions following a vote of league coaches. The Otters are picked to finish second in the regular season behind Humboldt State.
THE URBAN KNIGHTS: Academy of Art (5-5) opened the season with a 11-6 victory over Cal State Stanislaus. The Urban Knights went 1-5 at the Montana State Billings Desert Stinger held in Las Vegas, recording their only victory, 4-3, against Saint Martin's in the tournament opener.
