SEASIDE, Calif. – For the first time in program history, the Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team hosted a NCAA Division I team in the Kelp Bed on Saturday afternoon. The Otters dropped a 86-61 decision to the Golden Eagles.
Sophomore #Davion Berry# scored a team-high 17 points. Sophomore #James Albert# recorded a career-high 12 points, going 6-of-6 from the field, on top of his five rebounds. Senior #Ian Hosford# added nine points and nine rebounds.
The Otters trailed by only eight points (46-38) at the half time break.
Two free throws by sophomore guard #Brandon Ward# cut the gap to 49-42 with 16:14 remaining. The Golden Eagles answered by going on a 20-7 run and never allowed the Otters within 20 points again.
CSUMB's bench contributed 29 of the 61 points.
The Golden Eagles were led by Gary Flowers's 21 points and nine rebounds with Josimar Ayarza adding 18 points.
The Otters take a break for the holidays before traveling south to take on the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes on Wednesday, Dec. 29 at 5 p.m.
