STANFORD, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball kicked off its 2010-11 season with an exhibition game against NCAA Division I Stanford University at the Maples Center on Wednesday night.
The young Otters fell 87-56 to the Cardinal.
Sophomore #Davion Berry# scored a team-high 20 points with three coming from beyond the arc. Senior #Ian Hosford# added nine points while pulling down a team-best seven boards.
The Otters started off the game with five fouls in the first four minutes. CSUMB finally settled down by going on a 13-3 run capped by a jumper by sophomore #Brandon Ward# to cut the Cardinal lead to 37-26 with 2:21 remaining in the first half.
The score at the break was 42-26.
Berry came out on fire to begin the second half, scoring nine points with Hosford adding two points and five rebounds in the first seven minutes.
The Otters once again closed the Stanford lead to within 12 points, with Berry making two free throws and a layup (featured in the video below).
CSUMB was accurate from the free throw line, going 10-for-12.
The Otters take to the road for their first regular season game, traveling to San Luis Obispo to play the NCAA Division I Cal Poly Mustangs on Thursday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m.
