Otters Fall To Cal Baptist

SEASIDE, Calif.
– The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team fell, 7-3, to Cal Baptist on Tuesday in non-conference action at the Otter Baseball Field.

The Lancers got on the board first with a run on one hit and two CSUMB errors.

The Otters tied it up quickly, with a run in the bottom of the frame. With one out, senior #Andrew Marquardt# hit a single up the middle, and senior #Shea Davis# followed with a single through the left side to put runners at the corners. Junior #Jacob Flores# hit a RBI single to center field.

In the fourth inning, senior #Matt DeJesus# hit a double, his 13th of the season, off the right field wall and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Senior #Daniel Barras# drew a walk and was caught in a run down, but the Lancers through to the plate to catch DeJesus attempting to steal home.

The Lancers scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning, highlighted by Zach Hedges two-run homer.  CBU added two more runs on a homer by Drake Fages in the seventh inning.

In the bottom of the frame, Barras crushed a double off the center field wall and advanced to third base on a wild pitch. Junior #Jason Okamoto# grounded out to shortstop to bring Barras across the plate.

After CBU put up another run in the top of the eighth, DeJesus answered with a solo homer over the left field wall.

The Otters take a seven-day break before returning to the field to host San Francisco State on Friday, April 17, at 3 p.m.

Note: Flores is currently 10-for-10 when an Otter is on third base and there is less than two outs.
