FIRST PITCH:
The Otters play only one game this week, welcoming Cal Baptist University to the Otter Baseball Field on Tuesday.
NEXT WEEK:
CSUMB takes on San Francisco State in a four-game seres beginning on April 17.
SCOUTING THE LANCERS:
Cal Baptist (23-16) has won six of its last eight games, including a doubleheader sweep aginst Vanguard University this past weekend. On March 19, the Lancers defeated NAIA No. 7 Azusa Pacific University 11-10 in Riverside. The Lancers are nationally ranked in the top 20 in three categories: 5th in doubles per game (2.54), 11th in hits per game (11.1) and 15th in stolen bases per game (2.36).
THREE CCAA TEAMS IN NATIONAL STANDINGS:
In the new Collegiate Baseball Division II rankings that were released on March 24, three CCAA teams are featured. UC San Diego leads the group with a No. 6 ranking after posting a 19-7 record. Sonoma State, who is third in the CCAA standings, is ranked 11th this week. Cal State Dominguez Hills broke into the top 25 with a No. 22 ranking after winning three of four games against then ranked Cal State L.A.

CAL STATE L.A.:
The Otters strongest showing of the weekend was on Saturday, April 4, when senior #Norman Hebert# threw a complete-game shutout, 2-0, against Cal State L.A. in the opener of the doubleheader. Strong defensive plays by center fielder #Jason Okamoto# and third baseman #Daniel Barras# got the Otters out of top of the second inning. The Otters broke the scoreless run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by senior #Shea Davis#. Senior #Matt DeJesus# followed with a RBI single through the right side, giving the Otters a 2-0 lead. Hebert stuck out four and gave up only four hits in the nine-inning game. Ryan Chagonjian made a diving catch to end the eighth inning.
FLORES GETTING IT DONE:
Junior third baseman/catcher #Jacob Flores# raised his batting average from .261 to .311 after going 8-for-11 with three doubles in the four-game series against Cal State L.A.
MAYS SETS OTTER RECORD:
Senior #Steve Mays# set a new CSUMB record, completing a 14-game hitting streak. Mays broke fellow teammate
Andrew Marquardt's 11-game streak set in 2008. Mays leads the team with a .313 average in 80 at bats with 25 hits, four doubles, a triple and three home runs. He has a team-high 16 RBI.
