CARSON, Calif. – Senior #Steve Mays# knocked out his fifth home run of the season, but it was not enough as the Cal State Monterey baseball team fell 18-5 to Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday at Toro Field.
The Toros put up three runs in the bottom of the third inning, but CSUMB responded in the top of the fourth inning. Senior #Matt DeJesus# and junior #Jacob Flores# hit back-to-back singles to lead off the inning. On a 2-2 count, Mays blasted a three-run homer over the left field wall.
The Otters took a 4-3 lead when senior #Andrew Marquardt# grounded into a double play to score junior #Brent Sargenti#.
CSUDH retook the lead in the fifth inning, scoring four runs on three hits and a CSUMB error.
CSUMB closed the gap to 7-5 in the sixth inning when junior
Jason Okamoto hit a RBI double to right field.
The Toros racked up eight runs in the sixth innings that included four hits, three walks, two doubles and an error. They added three more runs in the eighth inning.
Flores led the Otters with two hits and two runs.
The Otters close out the 2009 season next weekend when they host Chico State in a four-game series. First pitch is on Friday, May 1 at 3 p.m.
