Otters Drop CCAA Series Opener To Warriors

SEASIDE, Calif.
– After a seven-day break, the Otter baseball team dropped a 14-3 decision to Cal State Stanislaus in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Friday at the Otter Baseball Field.

The Otters took a quick 2-0 lead in the second inning. Junior #Andrew Marquardt# hit a RBI double to right center to score senior #Matt DeJesus# who reached on a single.  Junior #Jacob Flores# connected on a sacrifice fly to the right field corner to bring Marquardt across the plate.

Stanislaus got on the board in the fourth inning on Kyle Loretelli's solo home run to center.

The Warriors added four more runs in the fifth on a two-run homer by Douglas Poreas and three consecutive singles on top of a CSUMB error.

Stanislaus put up three runs in each of the last three innings to get a nice cushion.  CSUMB was able to score one more run in the seventh inning on a double by senior #Shea Davis#.

The Warriors finished the game with five home runs.

CSUMB ace #Patrick McClain# took the loss after surrendering five runs on 10 hits over six innings. He did not walk a single batter and struck out four.  Stanislaus starter Dakota Watts pitched seven innings and struck out nine batters.

The Otters travel to Turlock on Saturday, March 28, for a doubleheader against the Warriors. First pitch is 12 p.m.
