SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team dropped a 6-3 decision on Sunday in the four-game series finale to No. 18 Sonoma State in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action.
The Seawolves took a 2-0 lead in the second on doubles by Ryan Stevens and Joe Slater.
Sonoma State added a run in both the fifth and sixth innings to take a 4-0 lead.
The Otters got on the board with three runs in the sixth inning. Junior #Shea Davis# led off with a walk and senior #Daniel Barras# followed with a double to the left field. Davis scored on senior #Steve Mays#'s sacrifice fly. After a pitching change by the Seawolves, Senior #Andrew Marquardt# hit a single through the right side to bring Barras across the plate. Freshman #Niko Kanakaris# singled and junior #Jacob Flores# nabbed a walk on a full count to load the bases. Marquardt raced home on a passed ball to close the gap to 4-3.
In the eighth inning, Sonoma State's Slater hit his third double of the game to score another run. The Seawolves added another run when Avila homered to center field in the ninth inning.
CSUMB's six hits were spread out over six batters with Barras and junior #Jason Okamoto# racking up doubles.
The Otters (6-24, 3-13 CCAA) host Academy of Art on Friday, March 20, in non-conference single game. First pitch is 2 p.m.
