ROHNERT PARK, Calif. –The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team was swept in a four-game series to Sonoma State on Sunday at Seawolf Diamond in Rohnert Park. The Otters fell 14-3 in game one before being shut out 2-0 in the nightcap.
The Seawolves pounded out 15 hits in game one to the Otters six.
Pinch hitter #Steve Mays# was 2-for-2, and senior #Matt DeJesus# went 2-for-4 with a home run. Starting pitcher #Thomas Incaviglia# was tagged with the loss after being touched up for eight runs in 3.2 innings.
Four Seawolves recorded multiple hits with Thomas Popl leading the way with two doubles. Max Kirk went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, and Joe Slater was 2-for-3 with two runs.
The Otters tied up the game in the second inning, on a single by
Peter Estes and balk called on Sonoma's pitcher Jonathan Flinn. The Seawolves had a nine run blast in the middle innings to clinch game one.
Game two was much tighter as CSUMB's #Patrick McClain# and Sonoma's Cameron Ray locked up in a pitcher's duel. Sonoma scored the only runs of the game in the fourth inning, on three hits and one CSUMB error.
McClain kept the Sonoma offense in check, striking out ten batters while allowing eight hits in a complete-game seven inning effort.
Juniors #Ryan Chagonjian#, #Brent Sargenti#, and #Jacob Flores# along with DeJesus and Mays each had a hit for the Otters.
The Otters return to their home diamond on Tuesday, Feb. 10, for a single game against Northwest Nazarene University. First pitch is 2 p.m.
