OPENING TIP:
The Otters return home to host the Coyotes of Cal State San Bernardino Thursday, Feb. 26 at 5:30 p.m. and the Broncos of Cal Poly Pomona on Friday, Feb. 27 also at 5:30 p.m. in the Kelp Bed In the Kelp Bed, prior to tip-off, there will be a short ceremony to recognize seniors #Dana Andrews#, #Anna Pineda# and #Aly Tsuchiyama#. . With the last CCAA games underway, the top eight finishing teams continue to the first round of the tournament beginning Tuesday, March 3.

SCOUTING THE COYOTES:
Cal State University San Bernardino (10-14, 8-10 CCAA) is currently tied for 6th in CCAA standings. Last weekend the Coyotes loss to Humboldt State 69-51. To lead CSUSB, Krystal Urzua scored 16 points, while both Jaclyn Rainville and Artaisha Waters added eight points and eight rebounds. The following night, CSUSB took advantage of a cold-shooting Sonoma State team in the second half to register a 58-47 victory. Players to watch: Krystal Urzua (14.4 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 77.6 free throw percentage, 51 assists), Jaclyn Rainville (9.9 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 40 assists, 38 blocks), Morgan Pryor (6.6 ppg, 2.4 61.1 free throw percentage).

SCOUTING THE BRONCOS:
Cal Poly Pomona (15-12, 11-7 CCAA) clinched a spot in post season play despite splitting the set of games last weekend. The Broncos upended Sonoma State, 62-56, on Friday Feb. 20, in Pomona, Calif. CPP loss to the Lumberjacks of Humboldt State 67-58 the following night. Players to watch: Reyana Colson (16.8 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 92 assists, 51 steals), Megan Ford (10.5 ppg, 7.6 rpg), Stephisha Walton (9.5 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 36 steals, 58 blocks). 

AGAINST SAN FRANCISCO STATE:
On Wednesday, The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team ended their six-game losing streak defeating cross bay rival SFSU. The Otters were led by Sophomore #LaShawn Johnson# with 11 points. Senior #Dana Andrews# pulled down a game-high 11 boards and junior #Helen Suarez# added eight points and five assists. CSUMB played relentless defense, which helped them knock off the Gators. CSUMB held SFSU to a stone cold shooting percentage of 24.6 percent from the field.

AGAINST UC SAN DIEGO:
On Saturday, the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team fell, 70-50, to No. 13 UC San Diego. At RIMAC arena, senior #Dana Andrews# led the Otters with 17 points and six rebounds. Junior #Janet Oseguera# recorded 10 points and junior #Helen Suarez# dished out five assists.

ANDREWS NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT:
Showing off her academic talent, #Dana Andrews# was named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American District VIII Women's Basketball College Division team. She was a first-team selection. Andrews is pursuing a bachelor's degree in business with an emphasis in marketing. Named to the Dean's list six times and appearing on the All-CCAA Women's Basketball Academic team twice, Andrews shows her versatility on and off the court. Results will be available mid-week.

SUAREZ SMOOTH IN THE CCAA:
Junior #Helen Suarez# dominates in two categories in the CCAA. The diversity in her game shows while she leads the conference in both assists and steals. Suarez is averaging 4.6 assists per game and 2.5 steals per game. Suarez is also nationally ranked in the same arenas. Out of 500 athletes, she is 51st in assists and 78th in steals per game.

MAKING HISTORY:
The Otters are currently sitting in third in the CCAA with a 70.6 free throw percentage. In a total of 24 games, CSUMB has tallied 357 free throws out of 506. With this, the Otters break into the national rankings. Out of 275 teams, CSUMB is 109th in free-throw percentage.

#Dana Andrews# – 4th in scoring (15.3 per game); 3rd in three-point field goals made (2.0 per game); 12th in three-point field percentage (32.2 percent); 10th in rebounding (6.8 per game); 5th in defensive rebounding (5.4 per game); 2nd in free throw percentage (81.0 percent).

#Helen Suarez# – 7th in scoring (14.3 per game); 1st in assists (4.6 per game); 1st in steals (2.5 per game); 6th in free throw percentage (73.7 percent).
