SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team opened California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Friday, dropping a doubleheader to No. 25 UC San Diego at Otter Baseball Field.
The Otters fell 3-1 in the opener before falling 7-1 in the nightcap.
In the opener, the Otters held a 1-0 lead after pulling off a double steal in the first inning. With junior
#Brent Sargenti# on third and senior #Matt DeJesus# on first, the Tritons threw to second when DeJesus made a move to second. Sargenti sprinted to the plate to score, beating the throw from second.
The Tritons tied the game in the eighth on three consecutive singles.
UCSD's Nick Burke hit a two-run homer in the top of the ninth to take the victory.
In the second game, UCSD took a 3-0 lead in the fourth and never looked back. The Otters prevented a shutout when DeJesus hit a RBI double to right center field.
Senior #Steve Mays# went 4-for-8 on the day, extending his hitting streak to 12-games.

Patrick McClain (8.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 8 SO) pitched a strong game, striking out eight batters.
The Otters (3-12, 0-2 CCAA) return to the field on Saturday for a doubleheader against the Tritons. First pitch is at 11:00 a.m.
