SEASIDE, Calif.
– The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team scored five times in the bottom of the third and then cruised to a 7-3 victory over Oregon Tech in the second game of the doubleheader at Otters Baseball Field on Saturday.  The Otters dropped game one, 8-2.

After OIT registered the first run, junior #Joey Friedman# hit his first home run at CSUMB to tie the game.

The Otters bats got hot in the third inning. Sophomore #Andrew DeGarmo# doubled to left field and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by junior #Brent Sargenti#.  Senior #Steve Mays# singled to drive in DeGarmo, but was called out extending his hit to a double.  Senior #Matt DeJesus# drew a walk and advanced on a balk.  Designated hitter #Ryan Chagonjian# singled up the middle to score DeJesus.  A single by junior #Jason Okamoto# and a walk by Friedman loaded the bases. Senior #Shea Davis# hit a base clearing double, giving the Otters a 6-1 lead.

Mays blasted a home run over the right field fence to raise CSUMB's lead to 7-1.

OIT added two runs in the fifth on a hit and a CSUMB error.

Mays, Chagonjian and Okamoto led the Otters with two hits apiece.

CSUMB starter #Thomas Incaviglia# (4.1 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO) picked up his first victory before #Brock Meastas# (2.2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 SO) earned his second save.

In game one, DeJesus and DeGarmo led the Otters with two hits. DeJesus recorded his second home run of the season, and DeGarmo added a triple.

“This was a big split for us today,” said Otters head coach Rich Aldrete. “We needed this going into conference next weekend.”

The Otters (3-8) will conclude their four-game series with the Hustlin' Owls at 11:00 a.m.  on Sunday, Feb. 15.
