LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team traveled to NCAA Division I Long Beach State on Saturday night, falling to the 49ers 96-61 at the Walter Pyramid.
The Otters drop to 2-4 overall while Long Beach improves to 5-4 with the win.
"We obviously played a very strong Division 1 team that is picked to finish first in their conference," said head coach #Rob Bishop#. "This game has no bearing on what our ultimate goal for the season.
"I give credit to our players for not quitting."
Senior guard #Jamelle Tolliver# led the Otters with 12 points while freshman point guard #Brandon Ward# chipped in 10 points and a team-high five rebounds.
After shooting 12-for-20 from beyond the arc, the 49ers took a 61-37 lead into the halftime break. The Otters shot 51.7 percent from the field but were haunted by turnovers, finishing with 12.
The Otters were out-rebounded 40 to 26.
The 49ers had five players in double figures with senior Stephan Gilling finishing with 28 points.
The Otters hosts NAIA Menlo College on Friday, Dec. 18 at the Otter Sports Center.
