SAN FRANCISCO – Senior #Keith Wilson# scored a team-high 20 points as the Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team dropped a 91-77 decision to NCAA Division I University of San Francisco on Saturday night at the War Memorial Coliseum.
“We got a much better overall effort tonight,” said head coach #Rob Bishop#. “We played them close throughout and forced them to play their starters longer than I think they wanted too. Our younger guys continue to get better and
Keith Wilson broke out tonight.”
Freshman #Brandon Ward# chipped in 15 points while classmate #Davion Berry# added 11. Junior college transfer #Ian Hosford# came off the bench to record a team-high five rebounds.
The Dons had four players reach double-digits with Dior Lowhorn leading with 30 points and ten boards.
The Otters shot 45.8 percent from the field, just .2 percent lower than USF. The Dons won the battle of the boards by controlling the glass, 46-24.
After two free throws by Wilson, CSUMB closed the gap to 77-71 with 4:48 remaining in the game.
“We still need to do a much better job of rebounding but our defensive effort was much better tonight,” Bishop said. “I was very happy with our effort to get the game close late. We gave ourselves a chance and now we just need to learn how to capitalize on those opportunities.”
The Otters open their 2009 regular season on Sunday, Nov. 15, welcoming Academy of Art University at the Otter Sports Center. Tip-off is at 2 p.m.
