UP NEXT: The 2009-10 CSUMB women's basketball team concludes its exhibition slate this Friday night, Nov. 13 with a 7 p.m. tip-off at University of Nevada. The game will serve as CSUMB's final tuneup prior to its 2009-10 season opener at the Phoenix Inn & Suites Invitational hosted by Western Oregon. The Otters take on Northwest Nazerene on Friday, Nov. 20 followed by a match-up with WOU on Saturday, Nov. 21.
PAST WEEKEND: After an NCAA compliance oversight by Santa Clara University, the Otters opened their exhibition season on the road against the Broncos of Santa Clara. CSUMB fell 78-59, but had strong performances by senior guard #Helen Suarez# (20 points) and junior college transfer #Michelle Santizo# (9 points, 6 rebounds).
COACH JIMENEZ'S CORNER: “We are a week improved from our last game vs. Santa Clara and are looking forward to another opportunity to go and play a D-I team on their home court. When we scheduled to play Nevada, we knew we were in a sense, scheduling ourselves but with a little more height and experience. They are one of the toughest teams in the WAC and we will be a great match to their speed and athleticism. Each practice has been another day for us to get better but more importantly for us to mesh as a team on offense and defense. We are all looking forward to getting on the court to measure ourselves against one of the best teams on the west coast.
THE WOLF PACK: Nevada opened its exhibition season against Cal State East Bay, the newest member of the CCAA. The Wolf Pack defeated the Pioneers, 94-52 on Sunday, Nov. 1. In the Western Athletic Conference Preseason women's basketball poll, Nevada was picked to finish sixth out of nine teams.
