LOS ANGELES – Senior #Joe Mitchell# scored 17 points and grabbed a career-high 19 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to propel Cal State Monterey Bay to a victory, falling to Cal State L.A., 80-70, at the Eagle Nest Friday night.
The loss dropped CSUMB to 3-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) conference and 9-3 overall, while Cal State L.A. improved to 2-3 in league action, 7-5 overall.
Joining Mitchell with 14 points was senior #Steve Monreal#, who also added three steals. Senior #Jose Sanchez# and junior #Dante Green# rounded out the Otters four double-figure shooters with 14 points apiece.
Monreal hit a 3-pointer to give the Otters a 36-35 lead at intermission.
The Golden Eagles went on a 13-4 run to open the second half. The Otters closed the lead to six on a jumper by Green, but CSULA rattled off another run to clinch the victory.
“Another tough road game,” said Otters head coach
Rob Bishop. “Cal State L.A. is a very talented team, and they wanted more than we did.
“Joe was unbelievable tonight on the glass. We just couldn't make shots when we had the opportunity.”
CSUMB will next head to Carson, to take on Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday, Jan 10 at 7:30 p.m.
