SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES:
Currently on an eight game losing streak, CSULA's lone victory, 71-69, came against Regis University in the Trip Sports Grand Canyon Classic hosted by Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona. The Golden Eagles opened CCAA play with a 60-53 loss to Cal State San Bernardino, followed by a 60-41 defeat to Cal Poly Pomona. Players to watch: Amber Whittington (8.8 ppg, 5.1 rpg), Joy Mason (8.2 ppg, 14 three pointers).
SCOUTING THE TOROS:
In their fi rst game of the New Year, CSUDH fell to undefeated UC San Diego, 66-56, at the RIMAC Arena in La Jolla on Jan 3. The Toros began their CCAA conference schedule with a losses to Cal Poly Pomona (55-48) and Cal State San Bernardino (60-58) but bounced back with a 52-33 victory over Cal State L.A. Players to watch: Neka Mixon (15.8 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 18 steals), Ennisha Kyles (12.2 ppg, 7.6 rpg).
AGAINST SONOMA STATE:
Junior #Helen Suarez# scored 18 points, grabbed eight rebounds and made a key steal down the stretch to help the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team beat Sonoma State 61-57 on Friday, Jan 2. Junior #Janet Oseguera# posted 13 points and freshman #Devin Riezebos# added 12 points and seven boards.
AGAINST HUMBOLDT STATE:
The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team suffered their second CCAA road loss on Saturday, Jan 3, falling to the Lumberjacks of Humboldt State by a 90-70 margin in the Lumberjack Arena. Junior #Helen Suarez# led the Otters with 22 points, adding five assists and three rebounds. Senior #Dana Andrews# added 19 points, her eight double-digit outing of the season. The Otters struggled from the floor all night, finishing at 35.2 percent (25-for-71) and 30.0 percent (3-for-10) from three-point range. HSU shot 52.9 percent (36-for-68) overall and 40.0 percent (8-for-20) from long distance. HSU recorded 11 blocks to CSUMB's one and outrebounded the Otters 46-42.

Sonoma State - “We talked a lot about having toughness while playing on the road and we showed it in the second half. Got some strong stops on defense, but in the end it was the toughness that got the job done tonight. I am really proud of this team and the determination they had to stay after it and win the game.”

LETHAL AT FREE THROW LINE:
Since opening the season with a 20-for-25 showing at the charity stripe against University of Mary, junior #Helen Suarez# has gone 55-for-67 (82.1 percent) against NCAA Division II opponents.
RECORD CROWD:
The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team competed in front of a record crowd of 580 people on Saturday, Dec. 6. CSUMB hosted a homecoming bbq prior to the game and fans piled in afterwards to root for the Otters as they took on the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors.
MAKING HISTORY:
The Otter squad has clinched two monumental victories already this season, beginning with a 50-46 victory over Chico State on Friday, Dec. 5, followed by a 61-57 road win against Sonoma State on Jan 2. This is the first time in the women's basketball program that the team has been victorious against these schools.
