Otters Edged By Cal State Dominguez Hills, 73-61

Senior Dana Andrews

Andrews leads team with 26 points, 19 in the second half

January 10, 2009

Box Score

CARSON, Calif.
– Senior #Dana Andrews# scored 19 of her game-high 26 points in the second half to spark a late rally for the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team, but it wasn't enough as the Otters fell 73-61 to Cal State Dominguez Hills at the Torodome.

The loss dropped CSUMB to 3-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) conference and 8-4 overall, while the Toros improved to 3-3 in CCAA action and 8-5 overall.

Junior #Helen Suarez# recorded her fourth 20-plus game with 22 points to go along with four steals.  Andrews led the Otters in rebounds, pulling down five rebounds.

Neka Mixon led four CSUDH players in double-figures with 15 points.  Brittne Blankenship and Whitney Gantt each scored 11 points, and Barbara Houston added ten points.

It was a tale of two halves for the Otters who were held to just 21 points the first half, tying a season-low.  CSUMB was able to turn things around after the intermission, almost doubling their point total and out-scoring CSUDH 40-36.  Andrews certainly helped the Otters' cause, connecting on three of five attempts from beyond the arc (5-of-8 from the field) in the second half.

The Otters cut the lead to nine with 2:08 left on a layup by Andrews, but that was the closest they would get before the whistler was blown.

CSUMB returns home next week to host conference rival San Francisco State on Thursday, Jan 15, and UC San Diego on Saturday, Jan 16.  Both games begin at 5:30 p.m.
