SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's volleyball team will be hosting their second volleyball tournament in two weeks this Friday and Saturday. No. 9 Western Washington University will join Eastern New Mexico University, William Jessup University and CCAA opponent Cal State Stanislaus.
Western Washington was the 2007 NCAA Division II National Tournament runner-up.
"This weekend is another opportunity to take all the great things that are happening in practice to the game time,” said head coach
Jody Garry. “Even though the outcome of the past weekend wasn't what I wanted, it was a great learning experience for us, which is what preseason is all about.”
Attacking strong in several sets, junior college transfer #Alisha Thomas# and freshman #Rheann Fall# combined had a total of 77 kills. On the defensive end, freshman #Dionna Lucas# kept the back court in tact with a tally of 53 digs for the weekend.
"We returned only one front row player this year, so it's going to take our setter and hitters some time to find the right rhythm strategically and emotionally,” Garry said. “And you can't beat playing at home!"
CSUMB will face William Jessup at 2 p.m. and later that night they will play a second match against the Vikings of Western Washington at 7 p.m.
To close out tournament play, the Otters hope to fill the Kelp Bed on Saturday when they face Eastern New Mexico at 7 p.m
