PETALUMA, Calif. --- CSU Monterey Bay shot 14-over par on Wednesday and fell back to sixth place after the third and final round of the NCAA Division II Men's West Regional at the Adobe Creek Golf Club in Petaluma.
The Otters started the day in second place and in control of a spot at the national tournament in Houston, but while two of the teams behind them shot an even par, CSUMB had its worst round of the tourney. #Oskar Nystrom# shot a 73, #Ricky Stockton# and #Martin Hardenberger# a 76, and #John Jackson# a 78.
Jackson hit five bogies on the back nine Wednesday and Hardenberger hit a bogey and two double bogeys on the back nine. Stockton also had a difficult time at the end, hitting two bogeys late.
CSU Monterey Bay entered the tournament as the No. 8 seed. The winner of each regional advances to the national event. Sonoma State, ranked No. 2 in the nation, easily won the West, finishing 3-under par and 12 strokes ahead of second-place Western Washington University. Grand Canyon University placed third at +16. CSU Stanislaus and CSU San Bernardino tied for fourth place at +17.
The West Regional was played at the same time and place as the Northwest Regional. In addition to each regional winner the three lowest-scoring teams from the West and Northwest are also invited to the national tournament. All three of those teams will come from the West, meaning CSU Monterey Bay missed the cut by just three strokes.
