Otter women finish third at Chico Invitational

OROVILLE --- #Cicilia Chudivan# shot a 154 over two rounds to tie for fourth and lead Cal State  Monterey Bay to a third-place finish at the InterWest Chico State Invitational. The tournament began Monday at the Butte Creek Country Club and ended Tuesday.

For the Otters, #Lauren Grounds# tied for 14th with a 160, #Darcy Lake# was tied for 18th with a 161 and #Tivi Latu# shot a 163 and finished 26th.

Western Washington University won the tourney with a 623 total, 13 strokes ahead of CSUMB. Chico State placed second with a 634.

The third-place finish should have a positive effect on the NCAA regional rankings. Cal State Monterey Bay is currently ranked No. 7 and needs to stay in the top eight. St. Edwards, ranked No. 2, finished fourth, one stroke behind CSUMB. St. Martin's, ranked No. 6 in the West, finished seventh with a 650. However, Chico was ranked No. 9 and should be moving up.

"We finished strong today," said co-head coach Teri Greene. "We beat both St. Edwards and St. Martins, which is what we wanted to do."

Chudivan shot an 80 the first day and a 74 on the second. Greene said the hard greens probably hurt Chudivan's game. "She came back with a really strong round on Tuesday, but I think the course hurt her because the ground is so hard in Oroville."

The women will next play in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Association Championships at the Redlands Mesa Golf Course in Grand Junction, Colo. on April 14 and 15.
