Baseball team plays final home series of season this week

SEASIDE --- Cal State Monterey Bay will be looking to break a 12-game losing streak this week when the Otters host the CSU San Bernardino baseball team for a four-game series beginning Thursday.

Since winning three in a row over San Francisco State on March 8 and 9, CSUMB (7-26 overall and 5-19 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association) has lost 12 straight while taking on some of the toughest competition in the country.

Now the Otters are in ninth place in the CCAA, but a good series against seventh-place San Bernardino (6-14 in the CCAA) could move the team up in the standings. The Otters also have four games left against eighth-place Cal Poly Pomona.

Outfielder #Andrew Marquardt# is leading the CSUMB team offensively. Marquardt is hitting .382 with six doubles, a homer and 15 RBIs. He's also scored 14 runs. #Matt Ralls# (.333), #Justin Rios# (.320), #Thomas Incaviglia# (.313) and #Matt DeJesus# (.307) are all hitting above .300. #Jeff Bernacil# (.270) leads the team in runs with 20

Thursday's game begins at 2 p.m. at the CSUMB baseball/softball complex off Second Avenue. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at noon and the final game on Sunday will start at noon.

The series against CSU San Bernardino is the final home stretch for the Otters. CSUMB will finish the season with 17 road games. So far this season the Otters are 6-9 at home and 1-17 on the road.
